IFIS - Ice removal from transmission lines

IFIS is a device for removing ice from power transmission lines.

IFIS can be used as a "scraper" as the pilot drags it horizontally with the device hanging by its own weight. The device has an integrated electronic vibrator which is operated from the cockpit.

The pilot can lift and move the cables with IFIS, removing hard ice crusts.

IFIS was constructed by Airlift in collaboratation with Statnett. Todays IFIS is the result of many years of experience and testing. It can efficiently remove most types of ice and snow formations on power cables.

An inner layer of teflon and oak chocks protects against damage to chamfers and cables. The powerful vibrator is effective for removing certain types of ice
